Tue, 16 Feb – Negombo

Wake up and soak in the relaxed coastal atmosphere of Negombo, a picturesque seaside town famous for its lagoon, canals and colonial history linked to the cinnamon trade. Enjoy a leisurely day to rest and refresh after our flight before our sightseeing begins in the evening. This morning we experience the lively atmosphere of Negombo’s famous fish markets, where local fishermen bring in the fresh catch of the day and bargaining fills the air. We then travel inland to visit the spectacular Dambulla Cave Temples, Sri Lanka’s best-preserved cave temple complex and home to ancient frescoes and more than 150 Buddha statues. Continuing into Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, we arrive in Sigiriya, gateway to some of the country’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites. Our stunning accommodation is surrounded by waterways, tropical gardens and beautiful views towards the famous Lion Rock

Thu, 18 Feb – Sigiriya

Today we venture deep into the jungle to explore the mystical ruins of Ritigala, an ancient forest monastery once home to Buddhist monks devoted to meditation and simple living. Surrounded by shady forests, streams and giant granite boulders, this peaceful and lesser-visited site feels wonderfully untouched and atmospheric. This afternoon we head to Minneriya National Park for an exciting jeep safari through forests and grasslands surrounding the ancient Minneriya Tank. Keep your camera ready as we search for elephants, sambar deer and colourful birdlife in one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful wildlife regions.

Fri, 19 Feb – Sigiriya

This morning we discover the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s medieval capital and one of the country’s most impressive archaeological treasures. Wander through remarkably preserved ruins including royal palaces, bathing pools, temples and the famous Gal Vihara Buddha statues carved into solid rock. We’ll also visit the fascinating Quadrangle, a compact collection of ancient religious ruins that provides incredible insight into Sri Lanka’s rich history. After lunch, we return to the hotel for a relaxing afternoon at leisure.

Early this morning we climb the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most famous landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Rising dramatically above the surrounding jungle, the fortress was once home to King Kasyapa’s royal palace and offers breathtaking panoramic views from the summit. Along the climb we’ll admire the beautifully preserved frescoes of celestial maidens and the fascinating Mirror Wall covered in centuries-old inscriptions.
